I've been quoted a price of $700 for a used cable connecting the SIR-3000 to an antenna. That seems awfully expensive to me. Is this just a standard RG6 coax or what kind of cable is it?

Hi generalzod,
No, that was quite inexpensive actually, I paid for one of mine that I lost 1000USD plus freight to Sweden.
The GSSI cable is a composite cable, custom made actually, it has two RG-58 or two/three RG-316U depending on the type.
It also has several shielded twisted pairs, one of them triple for power. That's not to mention that the Souriau/Glennair connectors have gone
up heavily in price recently. They used to use olive green military standard, but now it seems they have abandoned that for
the nickel-crome plated ones which are more expensive as well. It does seem a lot of money, I agree with you completely,
but given the volume of those they sell I can completely understand why.
I would recommend you to search for used ones instead, they might be cheaper, sometimes they come bundled with
used antennas for a little bit higher price than that.
My best regards,

Its true that cables are a bit pricey from all manufacturers but i think that is the price we have to pay for low noise ones. We have tried to build our cables in the past but we came with no much better price than the one that the manufacturers provide so we gave up.
